A nook for your muse (versão inglês)
Last night I went to a jazz recital and I noticed something peculiar. Sitting in the row in front of me, there was this woman with a journal open. I adjusted myself in my seat, always curious to find out what people write in their private journals (the key word being “private”). That’s when I saw she wasn’t writing at all, she was drawing the musicians from the band!
It was only a sketch but it looked pretty good to me. The point though was that there we were, listening to great music, and this lady found inspiration in that moment to do her own kind of art.
That made me pause and appreciate that experience even more. Because, as a fellow artist, I deeply relate to that woman. You see, art calls for more art. It brings out the inspiration in artists’ minds and souls to go ahead and create something of their own.
It can be music, painting, dancing, writing or something else altogether. Art draws more art.
And isn’t it also true for other things in life? We’re usually chirpier around happy people, or more anxious when someone else is on the edge. Beauty attracts beauty, zen makes us calmer, and chaos honestly turns me into a crazy person. We mimic our environment, so let’s turn our creation nook into a source of inspiration! Let’s build a sanctuary for our muse, where she would like to stay and chill and be the inspiration we need to carry on with our projects (artistic or not).
Buy a new painting that you like (or print one if you can’t afford it). Listen to a playlist that puts you in the mood. Read motivational quotes. Surround yourself with art, with creativity, with inspiration, and you too will feel inspired!
Now tell me, how is your muse doing? How are you helping her help you? Reply to this email letting me know all about it!
More later... In the meantime, you can check out my blog here.
Love,
Julia Roscoe
